Navajo Code Talker Day CEO Message

Honoring Navajo Code Talkers

Ya’at’eeh,

As the battle for Iwo Jima raged all around us, our voices held it together.
– Joseph Bruchac, Code Talker

On August 14th, NNGE joins the Navajo Nation and all Americans in honoring and recognizing our Navajo Code Talkers, who served in World War II, for their valiant service.

In 1942 “the Original 29” Navajo Marines encrypted the Navajo Language to provide an unbreakable code to secure communications during the war. They, along with 400 additional Navajo Code Talkers, have been commended for their language and talents and credited with helping the United States win the war. We honor the courageous surviving Code Talkers, as well as the legacy of those who have passed on.

Please offer our sincere gratitude to the Navajo Code Talkers and their families for protecting our nation, our citizens and the freedoms we enjoy.
